   Hello All !

   I've been following this game for quite some time now, reading the blog and those forums - but I still have no real idea what the game will be like...

   The description on the game page is very minimal, all I know is "All Heroes Die is a hybrid strategy/role-playing game where players control a family of heroes over several generations."

   There are so many different RPG genres (Hack-n-slash, story based, sandbox, quests choices and consequences based, old style, 1st person view, 3rd person view etc...)
   And many strategy games (Warlords2+3(love them), Heroes, Warcraft, C&C etc...)

   There are so many games around - but to what games AHD is comparable to and in what ways ?
   What can we expect from AHD ?

   Personally, I find AHD most similar to KODP (Kings of Dragon Pass) in the sense how it feels. You basically play a number of heroes of a city and also the city itself, where you explore a new continent by means of the map. Events form a core element which will present you with a situation and a few options how to respond to the situation, each with its own consequences to your heroes and the city.

   That's my impression in a nut shell. :P

   Hey MaximB. Thanks for coming by!

   It's a really good point, and one that we're moving to resolve. In the past we've done a poor job of really spelling out the gameplay experience in our communications, IMO. This is partially because the game was still changing a lot with basic functionality, and partially because I was setting a really high bar for what we communicated.

   As you probably saw, I'm trying to get that bar lower for what we communicate, which is a good thing. For the second, we really need to revamp that front page and get some more info there.

   The question I've been wrestling with is, how the heck do you describe this succinctly? The one that I'm most fond of is, "Civlizations meets Choose Your Own Adventure Books." The trouble there is that both of those are trademarked. I can probably say that or something close to it, but I need to check with our lawyer.

   Do you folks that have played it have any thoughts on the best way to describe the game? I'd love your input.

   I am not a lawyer so I have a no idea about trademark usage.
   But as I was the one asking the questions about "what is AHD all about", I am the last person to answer it.

   Romtos mentioned it would be like KODP (Kings of Dragon Pass) which I haven't played because of the lack of a native Linux client (and the age of the game), but it does give me an idea how AHD be played.

   Although the developer is the best person to answer this question,and he should be well prepared if he wants to give interviews about his games in the future ;)

   Well, yeah, that question wasn't directed at you Max. :)

   The problem lies less with knowing how to describe the game and more with how to describe it succinctly for press/website purposes. It's easier to have a conversation about it.

   In any case, in All Heroes Die, you control a family of heroes. Each year, you can have each take actions like exploring out into the wilderness, saying at home and ruling the city, or spending time with their children. The strategy game aspects revolve mostly around exploring the overland map and managing your city's growth. You must also manage your heroes' extended family to make sure your line does not die out & that you have the next generation of heroes ready to step in and fill their parents' shoes. The overall goal of the game is to end the civil war between your family and the 5th House, a renegade noble house that started the civil war.

   Hope that helps. I'd enjoy your feedback on anything that doesn't make sense there.

   Haven't heard of Kings of Dragon Pass until now (shame on me). Their web page has a succinct one-liner that reminds me of AHD - "It blends interactive stories and resource management into an epic saga of conflict, magic, and community."

   Like Picasso said, "Good artists copy; great artists steal" (and by "steal" I think he meant reuse in a new place, with a new audience but you'd have to email him about it.)
