Hi folks,
I'm very sorry to announce, we're going to be halting work on All Heroes Die. I've written up an explanation on the blog here.
I'm happy to answer any questions that you might have on things.
Thanks,
Scott
Well, that's certainly a shame. Few questions.
1. You talk melodramatic (with how you started the project and coding), this sounds almost like a death sentence. Why is that?
2. You mention further development, does this mean you're actually not suspending it, but taking it at another pace?
3. Where will the project go after warfare and fall? Can we expect slow further development?
4. Will this become a free time project? As in a hobby?
Hey Rom,
1) I don't know that I'd call it melodramatic, but I take your meaning. To be honest, it feels a little like a death sentence to me - this has been my life for a long while now. I know that with a little time and a little money, we'll be back on it... but for now, I'm closing out a large chapter of my life. It's tough to look at it another way right now. Does that make sense?
2) As of today, AHD isn't what the current team is focusing on (Graham, me, Joe). Whitney, who is still working some evenings, is going to be working on the bugs as time permits. She also has a lot of the Warfare stuff done, and we're going to try to get that out to you as soon as time permits.
3) I don't want to commit to anything right now, because I just don't know how it will go. For the time being, there are no plans after Warfare. Whitney will be working on the game at her own pace in her spare time, but we'll have to see what that comes to.
4) For the time being, no.
Some more explanation - we were faced with a choice, financially speaking. We weren't going to be around long enough to get the game done as things stood. In large part, this was because we didn't have the programming resources to move things forward at a good clip and because Graham and I both need to start making enough money to live on.
Looking at that, I could see that AHD wasn't going to get to the finish line right now, and I could either switch the focus of the team to another project that would get us some traction quickly, or we could all start looking for paying jobs. I decided that I'd rather see Macguffin Games succeed with something else rather than go work for another company right now. The added benefit of switching gears is that I have another programmer, Justin, that is interested in working with us on this new project - thus solving our resources issue.
I hope this helps. You and a couple other people in the forums have been fantastic with your support and feedback, and you guys deserve good answers. Ask away if you have anything else you want to know. And for what it's worth, I'm sorry we're stopping development (for now).
Thank you for the elaborate answers. I don't have any more questions for the moment. It's a shame how the project must be suspended. I guess I'll just patiently wait for the slowed down progression and hope it still leads to something nice.
Social media space?
Facebook/Iphone game or more like one of those browser strategy games?
Hey Therlun - it's a Facebook game, but possibly could go to other platforms after that.
Good luck! I had already shelved AHD until the Warfare build came out, but it did feel like it would be a long time coming anyway.
Thanks, Mark.
