Here are some general thoughts on what I would find helpful in the user interface. They aren't bugs per se, so I'm putting this in the "discussion" area.
My first philosophical question is what screen do you expect me to spend the majority of my game time on? At the moment, the "Ancestors" screen is the clear loser -- I only need to go there when someone dies, or if I want to do a major overhaul on my society. (During the middle to end game, I may want to switch to from a "growth" culture focused on family and exploring to a military culture.)
The "Society" screen is likewise not very interactive. If you moved the Mood and Population/Max Pop numbers into the title bar (along with the year, gold, relics, etc) I'd only have to visit it to train more military, increase the max pop, or buy improvements.
This leaves the Family and Map pages. I need to use both of them to execute Hero actions. My suggestion is that you arrange things so that the only action I ever take on the Map is the "explore" task. The player would then be able to spend 60-90% of their time on the Family, which I think is what yuo want.
You can do this by adding things to the Family page:
1. Having a Rule" button in the left side, along with "Raise a Child", Add Hero", ... Grey it out after someone has already ruled for the year.
2. Have a "Practice" button. Or if you take my previous suggestion on having a default "Practice", this is not as necessary.
3. Have a "Rest" button which is greyed out unless the hero has a wound.
Another way to enhance the Family page is to allow me to select a member of the family tree, and have the buttons on the left dim or brighten depending on whether that is an allowable action. This would require changing the current default, which is to pop up the huge box showing all their attributes.
My next GUI suggestion is to put dynamic icons on the portraits. You're already doing this to display wounds. The ultimate in providing information would be for the portrait to be modified, depending on skills. For example, a Magic-skilled character would have a pointy hat, a Martial character woould have a helm, and so forth. But even that wouldn't deal with characters good in multiple areas.
So, just put numbers in the four corners. Top left, Marital. Top right, Diplomacy. Bottom left, Trickery, and bottom right gets magic. Pop up an icon when a kid could use some loving. Have a pet surma or magic sword in the background.
