You mentioned elsewhere that the shear volume of written content needed to make certain features/game mechanics possible might be a stumbling block. Would you have any interest in fan-created dialog, descriptions, or event text? I'd want to play some more first (butting heads w/Frost Giants that get so mad they crash the game atm :P) but would happily volunteer some copy.

Heck, I'm down with that myself. Don't know that I could promise the highest class of quality, but the price is right.

This makes me wonder about a related subject, will we be able to make our own mods for this game? (So write new events and stuff)

Funny you should mention that--
For a long time, Scott and I have been incredibly interested in ensuring that this game was module in a way that made modding it fairly easy (slot in some event art or a portrait, add an event or trait, etc...) Creating the sort of community that would do that in order to keep the game lively--and us on our toes--has pretty much been at the top of our list of things to do.
We're definitely, -definitely- interested in that. As it stands right now, we don't have a great engine for putting events into the game (we're sitting on a bunch that still need to be entered by hand) but as soon as we do, we want to make it as easy as possible for players to get their own events out to the community.
TLDR: Scott can speak more intelligently about what it will take to do it, but yes. Definitely yes.

Oh, I find that great news! :D
Can't wait to be able to write my own events.
I agree that such features tend to keep the game lively.Posted 2 years ago # -
We definitely, definitely want to make it so players can make events, and although the infrastructure is not yet there, we would like to eventually have a very robust setup to mod many aspects of the game.
The first step on our end is going to be to get a simple content editor up and running, both for us and for you. Right now everything is being done by hand editing XML... which is less than ideal. On the up side, I've gotten one whole hell of a lot better at hand editing XML. ;)

On the twitter: "Scott: About to sit down with Graham and work on event bugs. Cannot -wait- for an event editor. We're prioritizing that highly."
You mentioned "both for us and for you". Does this mean then once you managed to create such a event editor, this will be made available to the customers simultaneously? Or will this be delayed till later?

While we're waiting, I think it might be a good idea to add a forum to this site for us (the testers) to post events we've written and get them critiqued.

I've had some experience extending Visual Studio and using WPF to create visual tools for creating and editing XML. Check out this YouTube video I put together at http://bit.ly/aJbjjc (SFW) for an overview of the tools another developer and I built (from 0:50-3:00 and 3:05-5:06 are very "visual").
If you guys need a fourth set of eyes to help conceptualize and create a standalone event editor for AHD, let me know. I'm looking to get some game-specific development experience and would be happy to devote some of my free time to helping you out.

RE The editor: Heck and yes for us and you. As soon as we know it works and works well, we'll be making it available.
RE the forum: LET IT BE SO.
RE Assistance on the editor: I've pointed out this post to Scott and Whitney (who actually do that sort of thing) and am now powerless to do more.
